Was the Target the British?

Nelson Ascher, of Amiland and Europundits writes a good article about what the French are really after. It's not us. They are trying to split Britain from the rest of Europe. However, Chiraq expected the rest of the continent to follow his lead. When Eastern Europe told him where he could go, he was shocked, his plan had been partially thwarted, and told them to shut up if they knew what was good for them. That is why now the countries of Eastern Europe liken Chirac to Leonid Breznev. The result of this is that postwar, we will have a golden opportunity to further reduce his power. If we expand NAFTA to be a transatlantic free trade zone, and strengthen our treaty ties with New Europe, we can knock the French down another peg. Their idea for a Neo-Carolingian/Neo-Napoleonic Empire via the EU will collapse when they realize le gloire will be drowned out by countries that just won their freedom, and won't trade an empire centered to their east to one centered to their west. All in all, a quite beneficial result.

Update:Porphyrogenitus comments on this. He believes that Chirac is attempting to weaken Blair so that Britain will be pulled into the Neo-Carolingian sphere, because Britain has the ability to project force and influence in places the French can't.
