Nelson Ascher, of Amiland and Europundits writes a good article about what the French are really after. It's not us. They are trying to split Britain from the rest of Europe. Update:Porphyrogenitus comments on this. He believes that Chirac is attempting to weaken Blair so that Britain will be pulled into the Neo-Carolingian sphere, because Britain has the ability to project force and influence in places the French can't.
