I was perusing Salam Pax's blog today, and came upon the most mind-crushingly stupid comment I've ever read:

I just want to thank you for keeping a web page such as this. It has really helped to inform me better to all sides to this war. Reading your entries helps me to more clearly see the good points and bad points to this war.

Is the general view in Iraq that they don't want the current regime, but they are afraid war will cause too much death and America will want to impose it's imperial capitalism on Iraq? Are they afraid of a McDonald's and Starbucks on every corner? I don't blame them if they are.

"Let Saddam torture me, I can deal with that. Let him torture my children. Let him murder my family. Let his goons dip me in oil. Let his rape squads violate my daughter. These things I can deal with. But please for the love of God don't subject me to the tender mercies of Mayor McCheese!"

"Vote? Why do I need to vote? If it weren't for Saddam, I'd be forced to spend $3.50 for a grande cappucino!"
